Masters Swim Coach
Steve Pratt brings more than 20 years of experience coaching Masters swimmers, combined with a lifelong background in competitive swimming and water polo, more than 20 years as a member of the Dolphin Club, and extensive experience guiding open-water swimmers around the world.
A lifelong swimmer and water polo player, Steve has spent decades around the water both as an athlete and a coach. For more than 20 years, he has coached BAC Masters swimming, working with swimmers of all ages, abilities, and experience levels—from those swimming for fitness and personal goals to experienced competitors preparing for pool and open-water events.
Steve believes Masters swimming is about much more than swimming. It builds community. The pool brings together people with different backgrounds, ages, and abilities who share a common passion for the water. The friendships, camaraderie, encouragement, and shared challenges are every bit as important as the workout itself. For Steve, one of the most rewarding parts of coaching is watching swimmers improve while becoming part of a community that supports and motivates one another.
A more than 20-year member of the Dolphin Club in San Francisco, Steve has also developed a deep appreciation for open-water swimming and the unique community that surrounds it.
Steve is also an experienced open-water swimming guide with SwimTrek, having guided swimmers in destinations including Greece, Turkey, Mexico, and Spain. His guiding experience has taken him through some of the world's most beautiful and challenging open-water environments. He has led swimmers with a wide range of abilities while managing safety, logistics, navigation, pacing, and the unique challenges presented by changing open-water conditions.
His SwimTrek experience has reinforced his belief that swimming has a remarkable ability to bring people together. Whether swimming in a pool with teammates, exploring the San Francisco Bay, or crossing open water in a group halfway around the world, the experience is about shared effort, adventure, and accomplishment.
Steve particularly enjoys helping swimmers bridge the gap between pool swimming and open water, where navigation, pacing, conditions, and confidence become just as important as stroke technique.
Whether coaching a Masters workout, analyzing a stroke, encouraging a teammate, or guiding a group across open water, Steve brings the same approach: work hard, have fun, support one another, and leave the water a better swimmer than when you got in.
