multi-faceted spring water polo program with training opportunities
for all athletes between the ages of 10-18. Available opportunities
consist of local competitions, skill clinics, and open scrimmages.
Local team competition is available to boys and girls aged

SPRING
LEAGUE COMPETITIVE TEAMS
BAC’s
competitive spring program for athletes 10-14 will be split
into two groups. The “Gold Team” will be geared
more for beginning players, while the “Blue Team”
will be geared toward experienced players. Placement on
either team is up to the discretion of the coaching staff
and will be based on age, ability, attitude, and commitment
level. |

“Gold
Team”
The “Gold Team” consists mainly of players who
are either completely new to the game or who are still working
to grasp the basic format and structure of play. In this
group athletes are taught, among other basic skills, how
to eggbeater properly, how to dribble a ball, how to pass
and shoot, and how to function and react within a rudimentary
offense and defense. While seeking to develop the fundamental
skills of the game, this group also focuses its energy on
enjoying the sport so that a lasting interest and sense
of confidence may grow. Competitions are intended to foster
that enjoyment in a low-stress and positive environment.
Any athlete between the ages of 10-14 is eligible to participate
with this team.
“Blue
Team”
The “Blue Team” concentrates mainly on perfecting
and expanding the basic skills necessary to play water polo
and putting such skills into game context. A large portion
of practice time is devoted to developing a strong sense
of the water, effective passing and shooting techniques,
situational ball handling, and commonly used offensive and
defensive strategies. Players learn how to move efficiently
in the water, to economize motion as a team, and to recognize
advantage situations. In addition to being exposed to new
skills and concepts, members of this group are also challenged
to begin understanding how to be a productive member of
a team. The playing environment for this group is competitive
yet relaxed. Any athlete between the ages of 10-14 is eligible
to participate with this team provided that the coaching staff believes that they have enough experience.
Enrollment is limited for both teams to ensure productive ratios between players and coaches. Please send in your registration form as soon as possible to reserve your place in the program. All team rosters are formed on a first come, first served basis.

SPRING WATER POLO CLINICS
BAC
is offering two kinds of clinics this spring, skill clinics
and beginner clinics. The skill clinics are designed for
high school aged athletes* who are interested in focusing
on a particular aspect or position of the game. These clinics
are structured so as to provide every athlete with an opportunity
to concentrate on enhancing and perfecting their skills
in the designated area of play. The beginner clinics are
designed for players who are new to water polo and want
to experience a broad overview of what the sport entails.
All
clinics will be run and supervised by specialists in the
related field of play. Player evaluations will be completed
by the coaching staff at the end of every session to as
to provide a clear understanding of what techniques each
athlete needs to focus on in order to improve his/her game. |

Beginner
Clinics
This
clinic is for players new to the sport. It will outline
and review all the key aspects of the game, such as passing,
shooting, eggbeater (treading water), basic rules, and standard
offensive and defensive positions. This is a great introduction
to the sport for athletes who are interested in water polo
but have had little or no exposure to how it is played.
2-Meter
Clinics
This
clinic will provide 2-Meter players with the opportunity
to learn shot selection and technique, how to beat a front,
how to turn a defender and draw ejections/penalty shots,
and other skills necessary to playing 2M effectively.
Shooting
Clinics
The shooting
clinic will be based primarily on perimeter shooting, with
a focus on technique, body positioning, and pump faking.
Participants will learn how to gain power from their legs
and torso as well as their arm. Techniques for shooting
off the water will also be covered.
Driving
Clinics
This
clinic will offer opportunities for participants to practice
both drive offense and drive defense. Offensively, players
will learn how to gain and keep an advantage, draw ejections,
and finish the shot. Defensively, players will learn how
to stay in front of a driving opponent, maintain a strong
body position, and avoid ejections.
Goalie
Clinics
This
clinic will focus on the many aspects of being a goalkeeper
such as positioning within the goal, shot-blocking techniques,
and passing. Blocking techniques will include blocking lobs,
shots off a drive, perimeter shots, 2M shots, and shots
off the counter.
Enrollment in each clinic is limited in order to ensure that each participant receives the necessary
level of coaching feedback and playing opportunities. Please
send in your registration form as soon as possible to reserve
your place in the desired clinics(s).

OPEN
SCRIMMAGES
BAC
is offering an open scrimmage program to all high school
athletes. The open scrimmage program will be solely an opportunity
to play water polo in a game-simulated environment. The
program is intended to allow members to continue their involvement
in water polo without the necessity of making a large commitment
of time or energy. The coaching staff will supervise and
referee all play, and will offer feedback to participants
throughout the program. All scrimmaging will be done within
the club, and outside teams or players will not be incorporated.
This
is a great opportunity for all athletes to gain substantial
playing experience without feeling the pressure of games
and tournaments. Athletes can use this opportunity to try
new skills and positions and to experiment without concern
over scores, win-loss records, etc. Every participant will
be given an equal opportunity to compete and to enjoy the
game!
