BAC Fall 2008 WATER POLO

Program Dates:
September 2nd through November 13th

NEW ! - PeeWee Polo September 23 - November 11

FALL OVERVIEW

During the Fall BAC offers its 14 and under members the opportunity to build off of the improvements they made during the summer. It is also a great time for new athletes to try the sport as we consider it the beginning of our year. Individual improvement and team development are the goals for the fall program. To reach these goals, athletes will participate in practice throughout the week as well as some weekend competitions. All interested athletes are encouraged to come out and join one of the best aquatic clubs on the peninsula!

If you are interested in BAC’s unique Dual Sport Program, combining both swimming and water polo training, please visit the Dual Sport Page for details.

For questions please contact Head Coach Amy Gardner at 650.558.2883, or amy@burlingameaquatics.com.

FALL COMPETITIVE TEAMS

BAC’s competitive fall program will be split into two groups. The “Gold Team” will be geared more for beginning players, while the “Blue Team” will be geared toward experienced players. Placement on either team is up to the discretion of the coaching staff and will be based on age, ability, attitude, and commitment level.

“Gold Team”

The “Gold Team” consists mainly of players who are either completely new to the game or who are still working to grasp the basic format and structure of play. In this group athletes are taught, among other basic skills, how to eggbeater properly, how to dribble a ball, how to pass and shoot, and how to function and react within a rudimentary offense and defense. While seeking to develop the fundamental skills of the game, this group also focuses its energy on enjoying the sport so that a lasting interest and sense of confidence may grow. Competitions are intended to foster that enjoyment in a low-stress and positive environment. Any athlete between the ages of 10-14 is eligible to participate with this team. (Gold Team Practice Schedule)

“Blue Team”

The “Blue Team” concentrates mainly on perfecting and expanding the basic skills necessary to play water polo and putting such skills into game context. A large portion of practice time is devoted to developing a strong sense of the water, effective passing and shooting techniques, situational ball handling, and commonly used offensive and defensive strategies. Players learn how to move efficiently in the water, to economize motion as a team, and to recognize advantage situations. In addition to being exposed to new skills and concepts, members of this group are also challenged to begin understanding how to be a productive member of a team. The playing environment for this group is competitive yet relaxed. Any athlete between the ages of 10-14 is eligible to participate with this team provided that the coaching staff feels the athlete’s skills and attitude in the water are at the appropriate level. (Blue Team Practice Schedule)

PEEWEE WATER POLO

This fall BAC will be offering a new program for athletes ages 6-9. The Peewee program will be designed for kids who want to learn about the sport, but aren’t quite ready to be competing. Practices will be held in the baby pool where the kids can stand – allowing them to focus on learning the game, without worrying about treading water. The practices will be focused on learning the rules and general strategy of the game. Kids will also begin to develop their ball handling skills. This practice group is designed to give our athletes a base of knowledge about the sport before they join our competitive teams.

Enrollment is limited for all teams to ensure productive ratios between players and coaches. Please send in your registration form as soon as possible to reserve your place in the program. All team rosters are formed on a first come, first served basis. (PeeWee Practice Schedule)
